Where is al taweelah

Demand for aluminium has been increasing as global economies recover from the coronavirus pandemic. The expansion of Al Taweelah smelter was completed in three phases with the company's own technology, said EGA. It commissioned the first phase in April and the second in July. The company reported its strongest half-yearly results in after its earnings more than doubled from the same period a year earlier amid higher demand for its products and the global economic recovery.

Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation, or Ebitda, for the six months to the end of June climbed to Dh3. Al Taweelah alumina refinery meets 40 per cent of our needs for the feedstock for aluminium smelters, replacing some imports. Preparations to operate the plant started before construction began, and took , hours of work.

Al Taweelah alumina refinery has a sophisticated control room with three times as many instruments as the most advanced airliner. Temperatures in some parts of the alumina refining process exceed 1, degrees celsius.

Pressure in some sections is x atmospheric pressure. Peak construction workforce was 11,, from 20 countries. Construction took 72 million hours of work, equivalent to one person working for over 25, years. Over safety professionals managed onsite safety processes and systems during construction.

The rate of recordable safety incidents was far lower than international benchmarks and there were zero fatalities. Al Taweelah alumina refinery and our bauxite mining project in the Republic of Guinea expanded our business upstream in the aluminium chain, transforming us into an integrated company delivering value from mine to metal.

Bauxite is the ore from which aluminium is derived. Al Taweelah also has a desalination plant to meet our water needs. It has a capacity of 3. Alumina and calcined petroleum coke which are raw materials required in the smelting process, are received by ship at Khalifa Port and transferred along a five kilometre long offshore belt conveyor and transfer tower system to our storage facilities on site.

Some raw materials are transferred from the port by truck. We can store , tonnes of alumina at Al Taweelah, and 50, tonnes of calcined petroleum coke. Liquid coal tar pitch and aluminium fluoride are received by road from Jebel Ali. We have a carbon plant at Al Taweelah to manufacture carbon anodes, which are required in the smelting process. Our Head Office complex is located next to our Al Taweelah smelter and is the administrative centre of our business.
